Located in the stunning Adelaide Hills, just 20 minutes drive from the city of Adelaide itself, Mount Lofty Summit is definitely a “must see” destination for any visitor to South Australia. From Mt Lofty Summit you can follow the popular walk down to Waterfall Gully, join the Heysen Trail or stroll along a walking trail through native bushland to Cleland Wildlife Park. There is an extensive network of walking trails within the surrounding Cleland Conservation Park.

A third of a million people visit the attraction each year. That’s because the peak which rises 710 metre above sea level provides absolutely breathtaking panoramic views across the Adelaide Hills, encompassing Adelaide’s majestic city skyline and the coast. You can even see out to Kangaroo Island on a clear day.

The adjacent peaks of Mount Lofty and Mount Bonython form a prominent landmark visible across the Adelaide Plains, known to the local Kaurna people as Yuridla, ‘two-ears’, part of the body of an ancestral being called Nganu. This Kaurna name has been preserved in its anglicised form as the name of the nearby town of Uraidla.

The summit features awesome interactive touch screens with a wealth of information about Mount Lofty and surrounding attractions.  There’s a gift shop with some great locally handmade gifts and artwork.

You can also relax at the Summit Restaurant and Café with incredible floor to ceiling windows to enjoy the view while sipping on an aromatic coffee or sampling some of the region’s fantastic local produce and fine South Australian wine.

It’s a challenging climb from Waterfall Gully. However, it’s also a beautiful hike through native bushland and you pass Cleland Wildlife Park on your journey to the summit. Kangaroos are often spotted on the trails leading up to the summit cafe.
