Tony grew up in Whyalla and moved to Adelaide to go to Flinders University. He studied a degree that was heavy in quantum physics and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nanotechnology (Hons), specialising in Nanostructures and Laser Devices. Switching his field of study to Chemistry, he gained his PhD in Chemical Engineering with a speciality in Nanotubes and Polymers.

After finishing his PhD in 2010, Tony wasn’t entirely interested in pursuing a career in academia, so he ventured into consulting. He found success and has since worked with many large global companies, including L’Oreal, Uber, Duracell, Zoetis, Dow Chemicals, and many more.

The success in helping these businesses fuelled his confidence and desire to do more, and in 2015 led to the creation of his own company, now known as Paradelta Strategy.

Paradelta Strategy: creative name, creative approach.

Now seven years old, Paradelta Strategy’s focus is to help businesses in the specialist areas of Management Consulting, Business Strategy, and Brand Equity Building.

The name is a creative combination of para- and delta that when combined means a distinct update, going beyond through change, protection when diversifying, and, ultimately, improving their fourth quarter. Essentially, Paradelta Strategy helps the growth of a business through examining and improving a company’s sales, marketing, operations, innovation and more.

Dr Tony Aitchison

Tony believes the key to a successful business in Adelaide and, in fact the world, is to work locally and be globally minded. Having an understanding of how the world works, enables a business to be able to compete on a local level but also internationally. For that reason, he has been able to work with local and international clients either in-house or remotely.

Using the A.C.E. Business Growth Maximizer system, Tony’s Paradelta Strategy team takes a hands-on approach to help identify, design, improve, and implement a diverse range of business and product growth strategies. The result is an increase in sales, improved workplace culture, improved operational efficiencies, and overall, happier working environments. His tailored process has enabled companies to turnaround from financially stressed situations, while others it has accelerated their growth.

“A business needs to be competitive to maintain and grow its market share. If you are not doing it, your competitors are, and they will gladly take your customers.”

Awarded and rewarded

Tony has been in Adelaide for many years with some time away, living in the USA and France. A few years after moving into his Management Consulting career, he gained an Executive MBA through the Australian Graduate School of Management at the University of New South Wales. More kudos that added to his growing list, which includes some pretty impressive awards (and meeting plenty of dignitaries along the way), include:

  • Semi-Finalist in Pitch@Palace (UK): for work in Medtech – Met Prince Andrew
  • Premier’s Ageing Award: for work in Medtech – Received from Jay Weatherill (Former SA Premier)
  • Dow Fellowship/American Australian Association: for work in rechargeable batteries – Received from Rupert Murdoch. Tony also met Julia Gillard (former Prime Minister), John Howard (former Prime Minister), and Kamahl at the awards night.
  • France/Australia Innovation Award: for work in establishing relationships with France
  • Flinders University Medal
  • Bragg Medal

Additionally, Tony was awarded two international research fellowships and even speaks enough French to get by. He also holds three joint patents in the medical and energy fields that have significantly helped people regain their quality of life and improved the environment.

Looking at Adelaide and beyond

For Tony, Adelaide is almost effortless to get around, and the cost of living is quite affordable.

Outside of the heady world that is Paradelta Strategy, Tony is a proud dog dad of his mini schnauzer, Arlo. He’s also very much into Options Trading, where he’s been utilising his knowledge in mathematics and trends to predict how the market will move. It’s a skill that’s used in his work as well.

In business, Tony plans to join more executive boards and grow his diverse range of companies and services. Like his SEO agency Click Rabbit, which helps a company’s website to rank higher in Google to attract more leads and sales. Additionally, in the past, he has been a public speaker on many global stages across the world and in Australia. Speaking about his work in helping businesses to grow through sales, marketing, and innovation. He plans to continue this work now that travel restrictions are starting to lift.

As for Paradelta Strategy, Tony has certainly overcome many hurdles in getting it to where it is today. And it’s made him more resilient.

“Sometimes, when working with a client, there are situations where the owner/manager believes everything is all right within the business, but the future is very grim. This is called myopic thinking, where it is a biased opinion of the business as they are unable to see the truth,” Tony explains.

He likens it to Gordon Ramsey’s restaurant makeover TV shows where the owner initially hates him but loves him after the changes are made.

“It causes some conflict, but with time the client comes around when they actually obtain significant business growth with the changes we suggest and make.”

The future for Paradelta Strategy is not just about growing and expanding the business but also about its clients. Tony and his team love helping clients grow through increasing their scale and diversification.
